So, you saw a girl that you thought was hot at a bar, you got up the nerve to talk to her and then, believe it or not, you got her number before the night was over. So, what do you do with this little gem of paper? How soon is too soon to call? How late is too late?
The rules on this have changed over the years. It used to be where the standard protocol was to wait 2-3 days before calling a woman after she gave you her number. Not any more. These days, with technology giving us instant everything, if you wait three days most women are going to think you've moved on and so will they.
Generally you should call her within a day of getting her number. After all, by giving you her number she has shown that she is obviously interested, so call her and let her know you're interested too and would like to see her again.
Make sure you have come up with a few ideas of where you could go on a date or where you could meet up to spend some time together before you pick up the phone.
It is important to keep yourself under control in the first call. This call should be short, sweet and to the point of just letting her know you wanted to touch base and possibly set up a time to get together. You don't want to lay your life out for her over the phone, you want to just give her a little attention and leave her wanting more.
Just as a note, in this day of text messaging, it is not unheard of to send a text the same day you get her number saying 'it was great to meet you' or something to that end to let her know you will be calling.
